When will the recession end?
Today, General Motors declared bankruptcy. And when they come out of bankruptcy, a new GM, lean, mean, and with nowhere to go but up, they will have closed six more plants and laid off another 20,000 loyal GM employees. Sales of existing homes are up 6.7% all over the country. The market is up to where it was in January. But that is still 5,000+ points less than it was at its best point.
When will this end? When will your own business turn around? And if you have stopped spending a penny on marketing, when should you begin investing in it again? When can it really help to bring in sales and revenues?
I am a marketing expert, but like most of the top economists, my guess is that our economy is now bouncing around the bottom and will begin improving — the recession will end — in mid to late August, 2009 (today is June 2). But it will not just bounce right back up. The comeback will be slow and take years. A lot of good people will be unemployed for a long time.
But the economy will begin its comeback in August. And since marketing cannot not turn your sales around instantly, NOW, June, is the right time to begin planning. July is the time to start implementing. Don’t wait — let your numbers begin improving in August. It’s finally time to stop pulling back and to become aggressive again — your marketing plan needs to begin today.
